NYC Immanuel Sunday Service: “God With Us”

On December 9th, Immanuel Community Church in NYC held a graceful Sunday service, honoring the 2nd Sunday of Advent. Dr.Devries delivered the message from Matthew 1:18-25 about Immanuel God who chooses to be with us at the bodily form of humanity.

Matthew 1:22-23

22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God is with us”).

Immanuel is the Strong Name Expressing Hope, Especially for Times of Corruption, Conflict, Chaos. In the New Testament, it is used in the first book and in its first chapter, when an angel of the Lord spoke to Joseph in a life-changing dream, announcing the miracle birth of Jesus.  And in that text, the Gospel writer, guided by the Holy Spirit, immediately adds that this miracle birth of Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of Isaiah’s profound prophecy of a timely baby named “Immanuel.”.

He also explains the prophecy regarding the name “Immanuel” through the book of Isaiah. The service was followed by Q&A time with Dr.Devries and lunch fellowship. Bible Study was also resumed after the service and they studied Romans 1 with the theme of the sin.
